✨ OUR UNIQUE DEBUT LITTER & A FOUR-GENERATION CONTINUUM
This combination has been designed with a big heart, cherishing the health, beautiful anatomy, easy-to-manage coat quality, and uncomplicated family dog nature of the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier. Our goal is to breed healthy, well-balanced, and well-structured Wheatens who retain the breed's original working capacity and wise character.
Our own beloved dogs have always been the heart of our breeding work. This upcoming A-litter is a historic milestone for us, as it represents our fourth consecutive generation! The most valuable foundation of this litter is the exceptional vitality and longevity found in both parents' lineages:
- The Sire's Heritage: The sire, Marlow, represents a pure Irish line known for its authentic, silky, and easy-care coat quality as well as a strong terrier character. Marlow lived an exceptionally healthy and active life, passing away at the venerable age of over 15 years. He has left behind magnificent, internationally successful champion and sports offspring all over Europe.
- The Dam's Heritage: An equally strong vitality flows through Prisca's line. Her grandfather, our late foundation sire Cassu (Von Jungfruborg Cameron), lived a healthy life with us until nearly 15 years of age, until July 2024. Prisca's own sire, Jouco (Venita's Jogesh), is still going strong, full of joy and energy at nearly 12 years of age. Prisca herself also has excellent results in blood tracking (MEJÄ). You can find plenty of additional information and photos of these wonderful, long-lived male lines in the ”Omat koirat” (Our Dogs) section of our website.
🌌 THE STORY BEHIND THE NAMES
We want to honor Prisca's Welsh roots as well as the firefly theme in Marlow's official name (Whindancer Fireflies). Fireflies are glowing, living lights in the darkness, which perfectly complements our kennel name Lumina Polaris (Northern Light). Therefore, the official names for this litter will be based on Welsh mythology, the sky, stars, and stories of light.
Since the ultrasound showed 6 puppies, we have pre-selected 8 beautiful name options. The final official names will be chosen from these drafts after the puppies are born, once the gender distribution and the exact number of puppies are confirmed!
A female puppy from this litter will stay with us to continue our wonderful fourth generation. She will carry the main piece of our theme and her official name will be Lumina Polaris Arianrhod (the Welsh goddess of the moon and stars).
Her everyday call name will be Acco – a name that beautifully ties our whole family history together: the strong double-C at the beginning honors Cassu, the crisp O-ending honors grandfather Jouco, and the lively, international sound fits the heritage left by dam Prisca and sire Marlow!
📖 Preliminary Name Proposals and Stories:
Female Options:
- Lumina Polaris Arianrhod (Puppy staying home – Call name: Acco)
Story: Arianrhod is the most significant figure in Welsh mythology, the goddess of the moon, stars, and fate. In Old Welsh, her name means ”silver wheel,” referring to the moon shining in the sky. In the Celtic tree alphabet, her token letter is specifically A. - Lumina Polaris Alpheta
Story: In Welsh lore, the realm and castle of the goddess Arianrhod is called Caer Arianrhod. In astronomy, this celestial castle is known as the constellation Corona Borealis (the Northern Crown). Alpheta is the brightest and most luminous star in this particular northern constellation. The name perfectly ties together the dam's Welsh bloodline and the northern light of Lumina Polaris. - Lumina Polaris Áine
Story: Áine is an ancient Celtic goddess of light, radiance, and summer. The name itself directly translates to brilliance, brightness, and sun. It is a perfect match for the name Lumina Polaris, bringing warmth, joy, and bright terrier energy into her life. - Lumina Polaris Argante
Story: A mysterious and enchanting elven queen from the ancient British and Celtic Arthurian legends, who ruled the mystical Isle of Avalon beyond the mists. Mythology scholars believe that the character and name of Argante evolved directly from the stories of the Welsh Arianrhod over the centuries.
Male Options:
- Lumina Polaris Anarawd
Story: Anarawd is a major historical figure in Welsh history. He was the most powerful king of ancient Wales and the eldest son of the national hero Rhodri the Great. In the old Welsh language, the roots of the name mean ”eloquent” and ”very golden” – a perfect fit for a handsome and lively Wheaten boy! - Lumina Polaris Arawn
Story: Arawn is the majestic king of the spirit world and the mystical underworld in the Welsh Mabinogion tales. For dog enthusiasts, there is a wonderful detail in the myth: Arawn had his own mythical, glowing white hunting hounds (Cŵn Annwn), who roamed the night sky among the stars and the northern lights. - Lumina Polaris Avalon
Story: Avalon (from the Welsh word afal, meaning apple) is the most legendary island in Celtic mythology, hidden behind the mists. It was a place of eternal youth, magic, and peace, where the wounded King Arthur was taken to be healed. The name carries deep mystique and a timeless, flowing dignity. - Lumina Polaris Amaethon
Story: Amaethon is the ancient Welsh god of nature, agriculture, and the powers of the earth. In mythology, he is the brother of the moon goddess Arianrhod. Amaethon was the figure who brought magic into the soil and nature – a brilliant name for a lively male puppy who loves exploring the woods and the great outdoors.
🏡 HOME-RAISED WITH CARE
Every single litter of ours is carefully considered and planned. The puppies grow up in the middle of our daily home and family life, getting used to household sounds, various people, and other dogs.
We put a lot of effort into the early socialization of the puppies. Depending on their stage of development, they are introduced to age-appropriate stimuli and get regular handling, grooming routines, and outdoor time, weather permitting. Our goal is to find the right, loving home for each puppy. We expect the puppies to become open, steady, healthy, and driven all-around dogs for both active homes and dog sports.
🎓 WHAT WE OFFER TO THE BUYER
We want to give our puppies the best possible start in life and support their new families throughout the dog's journey. Lumina Polaris puppies are delivered:
- At approximately 8 weeks of age (depending on the puppies' development and the exact whelping date).
- Washed and properly groomed/trimmed.
- Registered with the Finnish Kennel Club and microchipped.
- De-wormed multiple times.
- Examined by a veterinarian (with a written health certificate provided).
- 🇪🇺 With a pre-procured EU Pet Passport: The passport serves as the dog's official health card throughout its life, so there is no need to obtain a separate vaccination card. Owners can ask the vet to record all vaccinations and future official health screenings directly into the passport from the very beginning. The passport is also ready for any future international travel or dog shows.
- 🧬 The entire litter is DNA tested (MyDogDNA Litter Pack): Each puppy will receive its own official DNA report, which verifies parentage and provides valuable insights into its genetic health, disease carrier status, and genetic diversity. The results are fully approved by the Finnish Kennel Club.
🩺 COMMITMENT TO CANINE HEALTH
My goal is to find lovely and cooperative homes with whom I can maintain contact throughout the dog's life. Because I place a strong emphasis on health, it is my hope and requirement that all our bred dogs undergo official health screenings in adulthood, even if there are no plans for breeding or competing.
In our sales contract, we mutually commit to having the dog officially x-rayed as an adult (hips, elbows, spine) and having their eyes cleared. To make attending these health examinations as easy as possible for the owner, Kennel Lumina Polaris will pay for the official health screening referrals on your behalf!
Included with your new family member:
- A comprehensive puppy pack containing familiar puppy food, a blanket/toy with the scent of the litter, and written care and feeding instructions.
- Lifelong breeder support and guidance regarding care, training, and grooming. I will gladly continue to groom dogs of my breeding for pet or show clips in the future.
- We will enroll our puppy buyers as members of the Kerry- and Wheaten Terrier Club of Finland and pay the membership fee for the first year.
